Just north of the 7-11 located at 14101 Georgia Avenue, is a small wooded property owned by PEPCO.
It was full of trash. And this was a "web page of Shame". But it's not shameful at all now!
As of 2005 April 26, PEPCO has sent in a maintenance crew, and they cleared out immense amounts of trash. Furthermore, they cleared out most of the brush.
Here's a view from the parking lot of the neighboring 7-11 store. Please note that you can see clear through to the fencing of the Montgomery Chase townhomes. Any police officers parked in the 7-11 parking lot -- or a variety of other nearby vantage points -- will have no difficulty in spotting people who should not be in there.

Here's another view of the shortcut path people use to cross between the K-Mart and 7-11 lots. In my opinion, the little scruffy trees near the end of the fence should go. But please notice how the crew has preserved the taller trees. Whoever they are, they have done a fine job.

Here's a view, below, from the K-Mart parking lot. Note the long clear sight lines from nearly one end of the wooded lot to the other, with almost no ground clutter or cover. Before the work crew cleaned up the place, this was pretty much wall-to-wall bottles.

Below, a view from just north of the 7-11, close to the K-Mart lot. This is one of the areas that should be very well-illuminated by the new high-intensity lamps recently installed by 7-11.
|
Below is another view of the long clear sight lines in the lot. It will soon be very difficult for anyone to hide in there, and the new homeowners at Montgomery Chase won't have to look out of their windows at a scruffy woods full of booze bottles and boozers.
|
Below, another view from the 7-11 lot. Note that there's increased visibility throughout, but the remaining tree canopy is low enough so that you can't really see into the windows of the townhomes... but the canopy is high enough so that it would be easy to observe anyone on the ground attempting a burglary.
|
Another view. I suppose that really skinny people could hide behind the trees, but not much else will be lurking in there anymore.
|
Another view from near the 7-11. Note that there's no place left to hide. This is an area that should be well-illuminated by the new lights installed by 7-11. Again please note the long clear sight lines commanding a view of an entire edge of property of the townhomes, permitting surveillance of criminal activity from a previously unavailable vantage point.
