Mid County Neighborhood Initiative

Mini Grants Available for After School Services


The Mid County Neighborhood Initiative (MCNI) is a community-based strategic planning effort that identifies and secures needed resources to create safer communities and improved quality of life. Funds are available for after-school programming, recreation, sports or leisure activities serving children, youth and families in the Hewitt Avenue/Bel Pre Corridor, or the Wheaton Central Business District. Activities can occur within the community or at school sites. Funding is provided by the Governor’s Office for Crime Control and Prevention in partnership with the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families.


Eligible Organizations (amounts determined via procurement):

Legally incorporated not for profit organizations (grants up to $4,999)

Legally incorporated community or civic organizations (grants up to $4,999)

Government Entities (grants up to $4,999)



Use of Funds

Funds may be used to enhance existing programs, develop new programming, or purchase recreation or leisure activity equipment. Funds must be expended by June 30, 2003.


Due Date and Submission Location

Proposals must be submitted in person to the Mid County Regional Service Center, 2424 Reedie Drive, no later than 3:00 pm on February 28, 2003. It is anticipated that funding determinations will be made by March 7, 2003, and service agreements will be signed by March 11, 2003.
